bite /bait/ v. to use your teeth to cut into something: You have to teach your children not to bite
(other kids).
custom /'kAst�m/ n. a habitual way of behaving that is special to a person, people, region, or
nation: It is his custom to smoke a cigar after dinner.
host /houst/ n. someone who gives a party or has guests: The meeting is at Sam's house, so he's
the host for this week.
meal /mi:1/ n. a daily time for eating, known as breakfast, lunch, supper, or dinner, or all the food
served at such a time: Everyone in our family gets together for the evening meal.
offer /'ofar/ v. to propose something, to express willingness to do something: I offered to take my
friend to dinner.
reach /ri:tf/ v. to stretch out one's arm and hand: He reached across the table to get the salt.
rude /ru:d/ adj. impolite, making people angry by one's bad behavior or unkind words: It was rude
to walk away while that customer was talking to you.
take off /te1k of/ phr. v. to remove clothes, disrobe: He took his clothes off and put on pajamas.

confused /k�n'fju:zd/ adj. mixed up mentally so that one cannot understand or think clearly:
He was confused by the teacher's question.
down /daun/ adj. in low spirits, depressed: She's feeling down, so let's try to cheer her up.
holiday /'hofadei/ n. a day of celebration or rest: Many companies in the United States give their
employees ten legal holidays.
kind of /kamd �v/ phrase a little bit, somewhat: I am kind of tired; let's go home.
neighbor /'ne1b�r/ n. person or family that lives next to or near one's house, apartment, etc.: Our
neighbors are very friendly.

unusual !Anju:3u�l/ adj. peculiar, not normal: His unusual behavior shocks others.
warm /w:1:rm/ adj. kind, friendly: The hosts gave us a warm welcome.
weather /'weo�r/ n. the conditions of the sky and air relating to rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.: In good
weather, we go outside.
